FAQ
What is the BukkitWiki?
The BukkitWiki is the official home of the Bukkit documentation and other help related information. As this is a wiki, anyone within the community is free to contribute information to it, provided it meets our BukkitWiki Quality Guidelines. Anything found not to meet our guidelines might be modified or removed to ensure the level of quality of the wiki remains high. By contributing to the wiki, you agree to release your writing/articles to the Bukkit Organisation to be freely modified and used wherever we deem necessary without any attribution of credit apart from the wiki Recent Changes log. While we value contributions made by the community, plastering credit all over content you've added adds clutter and makes the wiki look messy.
What is the difference between Bukkit and CraftBukkit?
Bukkit is the developer API, while CraftBukkit is a mod for the official Minecraft server that uses the Bukkit API.
Basically, Bukkit is what plugin developers work with to bring you those cool, new features that make your server fricking awesome.
CraftBukkit is what we've made so that you can use those plugins with the official Minecraft server.
Is Bukkit or CraftBukkit released yet?
Yes. The latest Recommended Build of CraftBukkit can be found here: CraftBukkit - Recommended Build There are also non-recommended builds - while these may work, they are not supported by the Bukkit team. You should probably stick to the Recommended Builds
If you'd like to get involved, try out CraftBukkit or Bukkit and give us some feedback, please take a look at Setting up a server to get started.
What is the difference between the Recommended, Beta and Dev builds?
EvilSeph explains the release system for Bukkit and how it affects you. http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/reminder-bukkit-is-following-a-new-release-system.65358/
I used to use hMod, what is different with CraftBukkit?
hMod was developed with a mindset of "add it as it is needed" which made for some messy and inefficient code. CraftBukkit has been designed focusing on performance and doing things right.
As such, CraftBukkit is, essentially, just like the original Minecraft server but made to be extremely extensible and customisable through the use of plugins.
Where do I find plugins? or How do I add features to my server?
Plugins can be installed to add new, interesting features to your CraftBukkit powered server. Generally, you just need to find a plugin and add it to your "plugins" directory to install it, but some plugins require extra setup or configuration - see Installing Plugins for more information.
We already have over 1500 plugins ready to be used and actively maintained and supported which can be found by using our Plugin List Or Bukkit Dev.
How do I get my Plugin Submission approved?
The Plugin Submission system is manually managed by the Bukkit Community Staff. We try our best to go through the plugin submissions and approve/reject them every few days. When we reject your plugin, you will generally be told what is missing or what part of your submission does not meet our requirements. However, if this isn't the case you have likely not met a number of the requirements and we'd prefer it if you read through thePlugin Submissions/Release Guidelines and find out what is missing yourself.
How do I get Bukkit source code?
The source code can be found here. You will need Maven to build Bukkit.
How do I rename a command?
Commands can be renamed using the file bukkit.yml
Have a look at Bukkit.yml for instructions on how to do this.
How do I customize my server's help pages?
Help can be customized by editing the Help.yml file.
